As an RVer, fall also offers a unique chance to make the most of a scenic road trip! Take in the fall foliage and local autumn flair on these great RV trips:
1) Adirondacks, New York
The Adirondacks are an ideal destination for RVers, as they offer miles and miles of scenic roads. Head to New York to enjoy the golden leaves from one of many classic highways, including the Lake to Locks Passage or High Peaks Byway. Starting in early September, the area also boasts a wide array of fall festivals, so be sure to check out a local calendar when planning your trip. Whether you’re looking to rejoice in the arts, history, or just your classic pumpkin patch, there’s an event to suit every traveler.
2) Rocky Mountains, Colorado & Wyoming
Seeking autumn colors out west? We’ve got you covered! There are 390 miles of scenic roads through the Rocky Mountains just waiting to show off for you this fall. The views of golden aspen trees will be plentiful from Denver, CO through Wyoming. Whichever portion of the 390 miles calls your name loudest is sure to excite, with gorgeous colors, amazing hikes, and star-gazing opportunities throughout the region.
There are multiple national parks to visit in this area as well, including the gorgeous Gunnison National Park, offering scenic views like the one above.
3) Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina & Virginia
From mid-October through November, you won’t find a more colorful stretch of road than the Blue Ridge Parkway. The 469 miles of road offers gorgeous views of autumn colors, and connects the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The road is dotted with scenic viewpoints and plenty of space to pull over and admire your surroundings, making it a nearly perfect road trip option for fall foliage chasers.
The Blue Ridge Parkway also offers easy access to quaint local towns, hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty, and even apple picking at a few orchards you won’t want to miss.
4) Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Mix some American history with your breathtaking views this season, and visit Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to check out the changing leaves. The area boasts a variety of RV parks, which is good news because there is so much to see in Gettysburg National Military Park that you’ll need a comfortable place to rest each night. The trees that line the battlefield, as well as the many apple orchards, will be turning rich autumnal colors through the end of October.
5) Tunnel of Trees, Michigan
A beautiful spot for a trip all year long, Tunnel of Trees is a quick 16 mile jaunt extending north above Lake Michigan. This gorgeous spot will be boasting gorgeous red and gold as early as September. Visit the nearby town of Good Hart for a classic American experience, complete with a quaint general store, delicious bakery, and gift shop.
