We over-retracted our 5th wheel landing gear leg and seized the assembly in the “up” position, shearing a pin in the process. The leg manufacturer (RBW now AL-KO Kober) no longer manufactures parts so buying a replacement leg was out of the question. Phil spent 2.5 hours extracting the jammed assembly, freeing the seized Acme nut with a torch and reassembling everything with a new shear pin. This required getting our trailer off our truck without using the landing gear legs, grinding open factory-welded sub-assemblies, welding a temporary nut onto the screw shaft to aid in breaking the Acme nut loose, and then reassembling and re-welding everything back together.
From what I saw, I think the job we got ended up being beyond the capabilities of any mobile RV service or most RV repair places. We got the recommendation for this place from a local campground and are very pleased with the outcome– our landing gear leg works good as new. The work was done quickly and without damage to our, precious, irreplaceable, leg parts or rig.
