Steering recall on Spartan Chassis.
I learned of a recall by Spartan Chassis Company that involved possible cracks in a bracket holding the steering box to the chassis. I called
Spartan and was refereed to one of their authorized service centers in the Las Vegas area for an inspection of the bracket.
I chose Camping World which was the closest to my home. It should be noted that Camping World at this location is formally Las Vegas RV and
before that was Wheeler?s RV. When I checked in with the service writer he had never heard of the recall and I was told it would be a week and a
half before they could do the inspection. It was two weeks before they did the inspection. They didn’t find cracks and the RV was deemed unsafe
to drive. It was another two weeks before the repairs were made. They had one excuse after the other. First blaming Spartan and then their own
lack of the proper tools. During this time I was also in contact with Spartan and got different reasons for the delays or conflicting information
about contacts with Camping World. I also worked my way up to the general manager in order to get call backs relating to the progress of repairs.
The last two weeks in the shop caused me to delay a six month road trip by two weeks. One of the delays in working on my coach was that the
sales department has precedence in the shop and put three units in front of mine.
At this point I have no confidence that the work was done or done properly. I have an appointment at the Spartan factory to have it rechecked.
I will never go back to or recommend Camping World for any repairs.
LP gas and safety inspection – LP gas odor inside rig; Replaced all four tires after they indicated wear on originals. Free wash.
They attempted to put out the slide while jammers were still in place, damaging the jammers and slide frame inside the rig. Management was slow to take responsibility and initially denied any fault on their part. The LP gas odor persists.
Fuel pump on Ford Chinook, Good Sam Towing to Camping World.
A little pricey but work was done well.
Repair of exhaust leak, repair of leveling jacks, slide adjustment, coolant flush.
All work was completed OK. When I picked up the coach I had to get the Service Director involved to correct some of the service issues. If you use this service center check the repair estimate and verify all work performed. The Service Director is very eager to make sure the repairs are done correctly and that the customer is satisfied.
