RV Through Gorgeous Fall Foliage this Autumn
When considering autumn travel those of us in our California office immediately set our sights on gorgeous fall foliage. While we enjoy the nearly year-around sunshine and 70 degree weather, we do miss out on the beauty of changing seasons. Our search has led us to a list of the top four places to see this natural event, comprised of cities which boast close proximity to RV campgrounds and a variety of attractions to keep every traveler happy.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio
Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers far more than just an amazing view–though the rich golden foliage is hard to ignore. Visitors who enjoy being outdoors will love the hiking and horse trails that this national park has to offer, as well as the chance to see a variety of plants and animals living amongst the hills, forest and farmland of this beautiful landscape. Those looking to relish in the view alone may want to look into the scenic railroad trips offered by this amazing national park. Cuyahoga Valley is a great place to bring the kids or grandkids, especially those interested in nature and wildlife. The park rangers and representatives are happy to answer questions and tell stories during guided tours and child-centric events.
While the changing leaves drew us immediately to this gorgeous city, we were also enamored with its deep historical significance. Concord was the scene of the first battle in the Revolutionary War, and is thus often referred to as the “birthplace of the nation”. This major event means that this city houses a variety of museums and attractive historical landmarks. Concord lies only twenty miles outside of Boston, and is a must-see on any autumn tour of New England. The yellowing maple leaves add beauty to an already sought-after vacation spot, and make Concord our Number 3!
University of Notre Dame, Indiana
The University of Notre Dame makes our second choice for its unbelievable mixture of gorgeous fall foliage and timeless architecture. The campus houses over 11,000 students and around 183 buildings, including the highly recognized “golden dome” building. The fall season offers not only visual entertainment, but also the opportunity to attend an exciting Notre Dame football game. The university is a perfect RV destination during the autumn season, and sits close to several campground options.
Cottonwood Lake, Colorado
Cottonwood Lake falls into the number one slot because it is an RV paradise during the fall. Not only does this location offer a view of amazing autumn foliage, but also an array of outdoors activities. You can take in the patches of yellow aspens from your hike, campsite, or lakeside fishing perch. Cottonwood Lake is the perfect place to relax and listen to the sounds of nature–not the buzzing of speedboats. Hand propelled boats dot the lake at mid-day, or during windless afternoons when fishing is at its peak. With numerous RV parks directly surrounding San Isabel National Forest, where the lake makes its home, Colorado may just be the perfect place to spend a peaceful autumn vacation.
